Always ensure the surfaces to be treated is clean, dry, and frost-free.
Bare wood
- Species with a high content of natural wood extractives will need to weather off, usually for 4 weeks minimum. Alternatively clean with Osmo Brush Cleaner to degrease.
- Resinous wood, such as Larch or Douglas Fir needs to weather for at least 6 weeks.
- Pressure impregnated wood and tropical species like Massaranduba, Bangkirai, Garapa, Iroko need to weather off for at least 3 months.
- Cedar requires 3 months to weather off to improve absorbency.
Weathered Wood
- Greyed and weathered wood can be refreshed with Osmo Reviver Gel
- Avoid using power washers as this can significantly affect the coverage of Osmo Decking Oils.
- Clean and sand old microporous stains and completely remove old varnishes before application. Sanding to finishing grades of no more than a P120 grit is recommended.
- If additional protection against blue stain, rot, and insect attack is desired ( e.g. softwoods) , pre-treat the wood, if possible on all sides, with Osmo WR Impregnation.
